August 10th, 2011

This morning began peacefully Even though Maya is only here with us in spirit. We made arrangements for Maya’s memorial service today. It will be at St. Andrew Christian Church this saturday. Visitation with myself and Erin as well as grandparents will be from 1:00- 2:00. At 2:00 we will have a memorial service to celebrate all of the joy that Maya has brought into our lives. St. Andrew Christian Church is just west of 127th and Pflumm. The church will be open at 12:00 for those who would like to send flowers.

Today we gathered up all of Maya’s unused medical supplies so that we could donate them. It was something that I was not looking forward to. As I packed up suction catheters and feeding tubes I realized something profound. Maya no longer needs these things. I was filled with a great joy. An activity that I had been dreading had turned into a happy moment as I thought of Maya at peace and without struggle. She still fills our heart with love. We still feel her light in our home. And little Maya needs no assistance from air tanks or feeding tubes. The most beautiful girl in the history of the world remains with us and gives us peace.

Visitation from 1-2:00, Memorial Service to follow at:

We are asking for any donations in Maya’s name to be made to her hospice organization.  The impact of Carousel on Maya’s life has been profound.  A donation to this organization will help others receive the same care and love that Maya and our family received.

Donations should mention “in memory of Maya Allen” in the check memo or letter sent and be mailed to:

I give thanks for Maya’s life and for the opportunity to be blessed by the record and photos of her courage and beauty. I and my congregation in AZ will remember all of the Allens and your extended family on Saturday.

JJ and Erin- Just wanted you to know that I think of Maya and you both daily. I am hoping and praying that each day the pain fades a little more, even tho we know that all the memories will not. I miss holding your daughter and visiting with you both. I heard that Maya’s celebration of her life was a beautiful service, and I want you to know that I was there in spirit. Love to you both. Jeanne

    Dear Maya,
Although we are sad that we no longer get to see your beautiful face, we are filled with joy that you are among the angels showing off your wings and getting ready for your birthday celebration tomorrow. The first snow came today, as you saw, and in it we see the beauty that only God can provide for us. Please thank Him and know that we will be dancing tomorrow and happy to have you dancing in the clouds above us! We love you and miss you, darling girl!
    Love,
    Aunt Mo and the fam

Thank you for making your beautiful blog about your beautiful daughter public. My husband and I found out 2 weeks ago that our daughter is a Trisomy 18 baby. I’m due on April 3, so we’re doing everything we can to prepare ourselves. I hope we have as many amazing days with our daughter as you had with yours.

    Sincerely,
    Mary

I lost touch with your blog a while back after my own baby was born in June of 2011. I remembered your beautiful daughter this evening and searched and searched to find your blog. When I found it was initially elated as I thought Maya was still with you. Quickly I realized that she had passed and my heart sank. Your love for your daughter is such a beautiful thing and she was so lucky to have such wonderful parents. And you were so lucky to have such a beautiful daughter to bring out all of your love.

    Sincerely,
    Kelly
